This doesn't really work on the latest Illustrator versions sadly. I have my document on CYMK, but when I change from color to gradient, it gets back to all colored circles again, and then you switch from gradient to color again and the color remains even if you took them off the first time.

Why not just select the whole thing and set the height to 500 with constrained proportions?

how do you ensure a digital document has full bleed? I keep getting a white border around my document and it should show as full bleed of color on one side

you can do ths much fastr if once you create your row you highlight them all and then click transform then move youll then move the verticle row horizontally by your artboard dimensions so if you have a 3x3 inch art board you will input 0 in the verticle and 3 in in the horizontal click copy and will move it in the same exact mirroed spot as the left side. the for the top you do the same but instead youll highlight the top shapes click transform the move then type 0 in the horizontal and 3 in in the verticle. once its done all thats left is to add more shapes in the middle then group them create a 3x3 box that fits perfectly on your artboard bring it to fron then mask.

OP - thank you for posting. Very helpful. I am struggling though @ 3:02 in the video unfortunately. When i select the gradient, i get colored circles again. I confirm my stroke is set to none. My gradient slider is identical to yours, with black on the far right and white on the far left. location at 50%. When i click gradient, i see colors. my document is in CYMK mode. Thank you!

0:15 - "Back in the day, halftones were used to save ink." This is incorrect. Halftones have been and are still used today to create shades of color on printed materials and have never been used to save ink. In printing, you are limited to the number of inks you can print at one time, unlike computer screens. To fool the eye into thinking you are seeing shades of a particular color, like black ink in black-and-white photos, halftone dots are used to create the illusion of various shades. This is even true with full-color printing where only Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks are used. In printing, another system that affects the size of the dots is LPI (Lines Per Inch). The smaller the LPI, the grainer and larger the overall dots are. The larger the LPI, the finer and smaller the halftone dots are. When I was in the printing industry, we used around 90LPI screens (another name for halftones). When we finally obtained the technology to print our plates from the computer, we were able to achieve 133LPI. Sadly, our presses could not do any higher or I would have used 200LPI to provide the highest quality products. Other than that, great video!

Hi. Great tutorial-but it does not work in AiCC v28.5 (the latest of 2024). I followed the instructions carefully step-by-step. Works perfectly until I get to 'Object >Image Trace >Make and Expand'-the resulting shapes are not round, they are warped oval shapes. I repeated the steps twice, just in case I might be doing something wrong, but no, the result was the same each time, never as you show in your video.☹
